Lesson Learned with Ciaté Colourfoil

I wasn't lying when I said this was a fun collection to play with! Here is the Ciaté Colourfoil Kaleidoscope Klash set again...

Pretty holographic foil pattern!
I have a lot of notes to mention the second time around since I tried a few things differently! This time when I did this, I tried to get bigger chunks of the foil on my nail so I can see the holographic patterns.

I originally had started with blue and gold foil, and they came out beautifully! However, since I did this late at night, I had to wait till the morning to take pictures so I decided not to topcoat (thinking that it would ruin the holo) and went to sleep with my nails drying. The polish was dry, but the glue for the foil was tacky feeling the entire time. Also when I woke up and I saw that some of the foil had rubbed off somehow in my sleep and also that the foil had gotten dull overnight and lost its holographic pattern. You can see very clearly in the first picture how the gold and blue foil are dull and cracked looking.

I was sad, wondering what had happened. I decided to quickly fix my manicure by adding one more foil color (the red) and this time finishing up my manicure with topcoat like I always do, not caring if it ruins the holographic foil pattern. This completely solved all the issues! I wore these out to the gym and everything and they survived and did not lose the holographic pattern or the shine. You can see the pretty sparklies in the last 2 pictures from the red foil.

So the lesson is to make sure to finish this off with a topcoat (like the instructions say)! It doesn't ruin the holo or crack the foil like I thought it would...not wearing topcoat actually does that. I was silly for thinking topcoat would be a bad idea, no idea where that came from. Thanks for reading!

  2. I love the way this looks! Yeah, you can't polish your nails when you're pregnant unless it is formaldehyde free. Most polishes aren't :(.

    1. Oh yea that's true! There are a lot of 3 free polishes out there though, but I guess it might just be safer to not wear nail polish period...thanks!

  3. These remind me of city walls that are covered in poster and then when the posters are torn off bits are left behind. But in you case it just reveals more colour :) Very cool!

    1. I like the way you think! The method was pretty much the same as that so that makes complete sense.

  4. This is neat! I'm with Kas on this- it does remind me of layers of posters on a building. I like it! And apparently: when in doubt, topcoat it!
